On May 28th, 2025, Queen Esi Clarke and the UEW Queens made a remarkable impact at Onyadzi Basic School in Winneba as they joined the global community in celebrating World Menstrual Hygiene Day under the powerful theme: “Together for a Period-Friendly World.”
This timely event brought together students, educators, and health advocates for an engaging and educational experience centered on menstrual health and hygiene. With the aim of breaking stigmas and creating awareness, the initiative provided a safe space for young girls to learn, ask questions, and feel empowered about their bodies.
One of the highlights of the event was an insightful and interactive session led by experienced midwife Auntie Mary, who provided practical guidance on proper sanitary pad usage, personal hygiene, and health tips. Her warm and professional approach made it easy for students to connect and learn effectively.

As part of efforts to support menstrual equity, sanitary pads were distributed at discounted prices, thanks to the generous sponsorship from Anytime Sanitary Pads (@anytimepads_gh). This gesture ensured that every girl present had access to quality menstrual products—an essential step towards promoting dignity and confidence.
The team also engaged students in open discussions to debunk common myths and misconceptions surrounding menstruation, emphasizing that periods should never be a source of shame or embarrassment. Through shared stories, relatable experiences, and factual education, the UEW Queens are helping foster a generation that champions menstrual health as a basic human right.
