As part of efforts to promote environmental sustainability and combat climate change, the District Chief Executive (DCE) of Asunafo South, Hon. Yinkah Benjamin, led a massive tree-planting exercise to mark the 2025 edition of National Tree Planting Day.
The event, held on Tuesday, 4th June 2025, took place at the forecourt of Kukuom Agric Senior High School and saw the planting of over 3,000 tree seedlings across various parts of the district.
A Community-Driven Green Initiative
The tree planting exercise was not only symbolic but also a strong call to action for residents of the Asunafo South District to take environmental protection seriously. It was carried out in collaboration with key stakeholders including:
• NADMO officials
• Asunafo South District Education Directorate
• Headteachers and staff of Kukuom Agric SHS
• Students and community members
Hon. Yinkah Benjamin, in his remarks, emphasized the importance of tree planting as a long-term investment in the health of the environment and future generations. He encouraged the youth, especially students, to take ownership of the planted trees and ensure their growth and survival.
“Trees are life. Today, we are not just planting trees, we are planting hope, fresh air, and a better future. Let us all do our part to protect our environment,” he stated.
Partnering for Sustainability
The program aligns with Ghana’s national agenda to restore forest cover and improve climate resilience. The District Assembly, under the leadership of Hon. Yinkah, has pledged continued support for greening initiatives in schools, public institutions, and communities within the district.
