A big fire has destroyed parts of the Kantamanto market, causing serious damage to many shops and properties.
The Ghana National Fire Service said the fire started around 1 a.m. on Thursday, January 2, 2024. They have managed to control it and are working to stop more damage.
So far, 13 fire trucks are at the market, and firefighters are working hard to put out the flames and stop the fire from spreading to other areas.
Videos from the scene show thick smoke covering the market as the fire burns through shops and items.
Some individuals scramble through the rubble and ash of the Kantamanto market in an attempt to salvage the clothes and other goods that were not destroyed by this dawn’s tragic fire incident.

The Public Relations Officer of the Ghana
National Fire Service, Alex King Nartey, gave an update from the site. He said no lives have been lost so far.
“The fire is not fully out yet, but we have stopped it from spreading further. Thankfully, there are no reported deaths,” Nartey said. “We are still working to control the situation.”
Officials are still investigating the cause of the fire to find out what started it and the full extent of the damage.
